JIGS
Titles for jigs are listed alphabetically in this section of the Sheet Music Catalogue with links to audio samples and to the sheet music store where items can be viewed and purchased.
The jig (Irish: port, Scottish Gaelic: port-cruinn) is a form of lively folk dance in compound time.
It developed in 16th-century England and quickly spread to the continent. By the seventeenth century it had been widely adopted in Ireland and Scotland and is now most often associated with these countries.
The jig has been adapted to a variety of compound time signatures, by which they are often classified into groups, including light jigs, slip jigs, single jigs, double jigs, and treble jigs.
